Great 1000 mile rally 2
Got this cabinet knowing it had “graphical” issues basically the screen was flashing and everything was messed up because it was putting out blank sprites. After getting the cabinet home I found out some questionable things about the cabinet first of which was it was actually a TAITO WGP (World Grand Prix) cabinet that was converted into a great 1000 mile rally 2 machine I also found that the previous owner didn’t have the motherboard mounted in it so it flopped around in it the whole way home which luckily didn’t cause anymore damage. Also in the machine was a free screwdriver. Unfortunately after reseating all the ROM chips it still had the issue of bad sprites and since I don’t have experience programing new ROM chips I decided to go another route, emulation! I figured I would just put a raspberry pi in the machine but to do that I needed to figure out how to get the steering wheel and pedal into USB and after looking online I didn’t see many options but then I remembered a broken USB steering wheel I had and luckily enough it was a potentiometer wheel just like the one in the machine so I just replaced the potentiometer from the original wheel with the one from the USB steering wheel. I figured the pedal would also be a potentiometer but when I got to looking I found it was actually just a button so it was all gas or no gas so that was easy enough to wire into the USB steering wheel board and after a bit of trouble shooting it started working so now I just have to wait for the raspberry pi to come in and it will be done. But wait the raspberry pi has HDMI and the CRT in the arcade machine has CGA so I had order a HDMI to VGA and then a VGA to CGA since I couldn’t find a HDMI to CGA adapter now we just have to wait for the parts to arrive.
